ADVANTAGES OF IN-HOUSE TRAINING

Everyone Gets The Same Story

It is impossible for one or two people to attend an off site seminar, come back and let the information "trickle down". Trickle down doesn’t happen because 1) people come back to their regular job and don’t have time, 2) most people are not experienced trainers and can not communicate the information clearly 3) a good retention rate from a training class is 70%. If I take training from someone who went to the class, I will only retain 49% (.7 X .7). The third generation of trainee only gets 34%! With in house training, everyone gets the same story. The fact that many took the training serves to reinforce the knowledge.

Student Interaction

People who promote public seminars claim as a benefit the interaction that occurs with your peers in other companies. While that can be interesting and entertaining, seldom are their issues, needs and concerns the same as yours. Having your whole team in the course will create focus and discussion on the issues that are important to your organization. Everyone must agree on the issues and what is needed to solve them. Getting a good start on this agreement is important to provide the momentum needed to implement strategy for change. This momentum can only be provided if a large percentage of your employees share the training experience.

Training Customization

Every business organization has strengths and weaknesses, threats and opportunities. The public seminar must be, by definition, generic. In house training can be designed to focus on the issues critical to your business. Your time will not be wasted on topics that have no relevance to your business. The focus is on you and your organization.

Less Disruption

A day of travel, a night away from family in a hotel, a day sitting in an uncomfortable chair, rubber chicken for lunch and the evening spent standing around in the airport wondering if your flight is ever going to leave….all the while wondering who is putting all the work in your in basket that you know will be there when you return, tired from your late night. The timetable belongs to the seminar provider, not you.

Contrast this with a seminar scheduled around your work day, leaving time to get back to your office, answer critical phone calls and emails, making your normal drive to work and home. The in house seminar is scheduled around your and your organization’s needs…the day you want it, the time schedule you want, the number of hours you want, the topics you want. There is no comparison, if only you could afford it.

Cost Effective

There’s good news. You can afford it. In fact, it can cost less per employee than off site seminars. Since customer service requires that many people be trained, the cost can be less than you imagined. Airfares, hotel bills, meals, seminar cost per attendee and other expenses for several of your employees or an experienced seminar presenter right down the hall at your facility, teaching what you want to learn. You decide.
