James D. Tarr, president of J.D. Tarr Associates has spent over 25 years working in many business environments in a wide variety of line and staff positions. His experience includes managing his own consulting practice, senior management positions, consulting with a Big 6 CPA firm and industrial and manufacturing engineering.
Since 1981, Mr. Tarr has headed his own consulting firm, J.D. TARR ASSOCIATES, providing management assistance and education in a variety of areas, including:
- Business startup and turnaround planning
- Activity Based Management systems
- Training and education in MRP II, Just-in-Time, Total Quality Management, Activity Based Management and related topics
- MRP system installation assistance
- Just-in-Time/Total Quality Management process improvement Interim management assignments.
Mr. Tarr has also served as executive vice president of manufacturing and finance for a multi-division manufacturing company. Over a seven year period, he successfully turned around the company, more than tripling its sales, substantially increasing its net worth, developing two new manufacturing divisions and moving the company into the computer age.
In addition to his consulting practice, Mr. Tarr currently conducts public seminars on a variety of topics and has taught courses in Production Management and Just-in-Time/Total Quality Management at California State Universities at Los Angeles and Dominguez Hills. He speaks frequently at conferences, both nationally and internationally, and is a published author.
Mr. Tarr is an active member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), having served as President of the Los Angeles Chapter. He has also served as a Regional Officer and as Chairman of the Society Awards Committee. He is Certified in Production Inventory Management.
Mr. Tarr holds a B.S. in Management Science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, an MBA from California State University at Long Beach and has taken post graduate work The Peter Drucker Graduate School of Management of The Claremont Graduate School.
